The Bull Victorious
in Return to St. Louis

Light Middleweight boxer and south St. Louis-native Deandre "the Bull" Latimore returned to the ring at Chaifetz Arena at Saint Louis University Saturday, August 22, and scored a unanimous decision against Sammy Sparkman.
The bout marked the first for Deandre Latimore since his April 2009 split decision loss to Cory Spinks in a cross-town showdown for the vacant IBF junior middleweight championship. Prior to fighting Spinks, Latimore, 19-2-0 (16 KO's), had defeated the IBF #1 ranked junior middleweight at the time, Sechew Powell, in the seventh round of their ESPN2 televised battle in New York City.
Letter from the Promoters on the Aug 22 Fights:
First and foremost, thank you to all who attended the event at Chaifetz Arena on August 22. The
evening definitely got off to a rocky start and for that we apologize.
The ambulance contracted for the event was scheduled to arrive at 7:00 p.m. In a pre-fight review, it was discovered the ambulance had not yet arrived. The unexplained failure of the
ambulance to arrive is beyond our control, however, Missouri law requires both a fight doctor
and an ambulance on site before any professional matches may take place. There is no such
requirement, nor is there a need for amateur sparring matches/exhibitions. Approaching 8:00
pm, when it was discovered that an ambulance was en route, with the fight doctor and an EMT
seated ringside the event finally got started.
The amateur exhibition was a last minute addition to replace the Walter Foster bout. Walter
sustained a non-boxing related injury that forced him off the card. Thanks to Juliana Neisz,
Ozark USA Boxing and of course the fighters for helping out and putting on a good show.
The undercard featured some fan favorites in Ryan Davis and Hollie Dunaway putting in
exciting, gritty performances, Dannie Williams with the evening’s lone knockout victory and
rising star Ryan Coyne in an exciting demonstration of his talent. What promised to be an
exciting match between Kevin Engel and Julius Fogle ended prematurely in the second round,
stopped by the fight doctor and declared a no-decision.
With three of the undercard bouts going the distance and twenty-two rounds of boxing in the
books, we were finally ready for the co-main and main events.
The event was being filmed for potential television exposure so the National Anthem was
scheduled for what would be the start of any such television event.
Unfortunately, while the crowd was ready for the co-main to begin, the fight doctor was tending
to fighters injured in the previous bouts and we were therefore unable to start the fight. While no
one ever wants them, medical delays are always a threat in boxing.
Once the co-main event began, Alex Bunema and Willie Lee did not disappoint with bell to bell
action for ten rounds for the NABF title.
After the belt presentation and several hours after the night was scheduled to begin, it was finally
time for the main event which featured ten more rounds of boxing ending in a unanimous
decision for St. Louisan, Deandre Latimore.
After all was said and done, the night featured forty-two rounds of professional boxing, and
while everyone in attendance, including the promoters, would have preferred an event without
delay, in my opinion, the boxers performances made up for the technical glitches in the event.
Again, the promoters would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting all the local
fighters, we apologize for those who found the delays overly distracting and, as always, welcome
any suggestions for future events.
